Chichester reveals its residents' bucket list

Doctors and charity volunteers have set up a blackboard in Chichester town centre today, asking people to write what they want to do before they die.

The unusual blackboard box for ‘Dying Matters Week’ is now covered with comments in various colours and the campaign group will stay until around 2pm today (Thursday May 12).

Charity groups such as St. Wilfred’s Hospice, Marie Curie Cancer Care and Macmillian Cancer Supportare joining West Sussex’ NHS commissioning group for the project.

Clinical leader for end of life care Dr Beth Meek said she came up with the idea of using a board in Chichester after hearing of similar projects in London.

“It’s an idea that’s used all round the world,” she said.

“I like the idea that people can write on the side but people walking past can be part of the conversation just by looking at it.

The project is part of a national initiative to encourage people to have the ‘big conversation’ about last wishes and to be able to discuss death with others.

Dr Meek added:“It’s not about the details of death or dying, it’s about talking about it and the support available.”
