It has originally been advised a key stretch of the B2259, near the ‘Pink Pub’, would be shut for ten days due to urgent sewer works by Southern Water.

Despite it taking half as long as expected, the work and resulting gridlock angered many locals with one deeming it an ‘absolute shambles’.

Taking to Facebook to express the frustration, Emma Holmes said: “It was a nightmare round Shripney due to this, took an hour to get home, should only take ten min.”

While Fatima Rosales Naya said: “Yet again! Hardly a month goes by without a section of that road being dug up. I am well and truly fed up with road closures.”

Julia Saw reported a lack of visible notices on affected bus stops also meant ‘lots of people were waiting for buses that were not going to turn up’.

But Nicholas Thompson said with a choice between work now or fixing the sewers ‘when they collapse’ that he’d ‘take the roadworks’, adding ‘I like being able to flush my loo’.
