Chichester schools forced to close by strike action

QUIET schoolyards and empty classrooms were evident across the Chichester area this morning.

As teachers across the country strike over pay, pensions and jobs, schools have been forced to close.

Both Chichester High Schools and Bishop Luffa were closed today (October 17).

At Chichester High School for Boys, staff who were not members of unions NUT or NASUWT were on site, but not available to speak.

The school said those on strike had not come in to school that day.

West Sussex County Council has stressed it has no local control over the strikes – which are part of a national campaign.
