ENERGETIC staff at Sainsbury’s in Chichester have helped raise a stunning £5,000 for the Sussex Snowdrop Trust.

Among the activities they took part in were a series of runs, including the Bognor Regis 10K, and one staff member, Mark Richardson, even ran the London Marathon as part of the fundraising mission.

As well as the runs, more leisurely events included cake sales and in-store customer collections.

The store, in Portfield Way, has a group of staff who are part of a fundraising council and they have just decided to keep Snowdrop as their charity for the following year, vowing to double their efforts and raise £10,000 over the next 12 months.

PR ambassador for the branch, Rosie Hall said: “We asked people to nominate which charities they would like us to raise money for, and there were lots of different charities, but we chose Snowdrop because it has that personal connection in-store because it has a helped a few colleagues and their families and friends so we really wanted to give something back to them.

“There is quite a group of us involved in the fundraising and we have really enjoyed doing all the different events. I thought I wasn’t going to enjoy the run, but afterwards I thought ‘that was really good’. It’s been really good fun and really rewarding to know you are helping.”

Future events planned include more runs and they also hope to enter two teams into a rounders tournament which is being held in Selsey in August.
