Chichester swimmers back Marie Curie Cancer Care and Sport Relief

MORE than £4,900 was raised for charity by 43 people who collectively swam 62 miles.

The swimmers took part in Swimathon Weekend 2012 at Westgate Leisure Chichester.

The money will go to Marie Curie Cancer Care and Sport Relief.

In total, £2.3m was raised by swimmers across the country for the event, which is the world’s largest fundraising swim.

Westgate Leisure was one of over 645 pools which took part.

Swimmers completed various distances ranging from the 48-length Sport Relief mile to the 150 length 5k swim for Marie Curie.

Olympic gold medallist and Swimathon president Duncan Goodhew said: “Each year, dedicated swimmers of all ages and abilities put in hours of training to raise money for a cause close to their hearts and this year’s event is no exception.”
