The historic townhouse has been Q’s home for 44 years and the last big refurbishment followed a devastating fire 1986.

Then, like now, owner Anthony Barnes-Smith is focusing on top-quality materials with Chichester-based MRL Woodwork tasked with the project.

“Wood has always been an important feature of this building and we wanted to retain that feel, which is why we chose solid oak, specially sourced for this refurbishment,” said managing director Dawn Lawrence.

“We aim to be a very ‘green’ business and we’re re-using as much of the existing materials as possible. Even the work stations will be recycled in some way. Anything we can’t use immediately in the refit will be put up in other parts of the building or go into storage for use in potential new salons.”

The past is playing a part in the design with the spacious and elegant salon set to recreate the atmosphere of the grand drawing room it once was.

While modern elements reflect customer requests, like the antique brass USB connectors at all work stations, and comfort with energy-efficient fans and under-floor heating.
