The church is close to the original seventh century seat of St Wilfrid, the Bishop of the South Saxons and the man credited with bringing Christianity to pagan Sussex.

For Paul Machell, senior associate director at Strutt and Parker Chichester it also holds personal memories.

“Growing up I used to go fishing in the opening of the harbour with my father,” he said.

“And I would take a little dingy from my grandparents in Selsey to Pagham and stop off at Church Norton on the way.”

Away from the hustle and bustle it is ideal for people wanting a more peaceful way of living with only the church, shoreline and a few houses.

“There is a mix of people living there,” he said. “There are couples, retirees who enjoy a healthier more active lifestyle and families who have left London behind and want a quieter life.

“It is ideal for people who want a more natural lifestyle where children play out in the open rather than being stuck behind a screen.”

A highly sought after area Strutt & Parker currently have two properties for sale in the area and one under offer. Each completely different from the modern Elms with its inside pool to the Lodge with its fully stocked carp pond and 5.2 acres of land.

With countryside and the sea it has the best of both worlds and Paul said that you can easily walk along the shoreline to the Crab and Lobster pub in Sidlesham.

It truly is a ‘hidden gem’ with unspoilt beaches and immediate access to wonderful coastal walks, with the surrounding countryside being designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

“It really is a beautiful place,” he added. “For those that want to enjoy the sea but escape the crowds Church Norton is the perfect place to go.”
