Connection to West Wittering is a must for those seeking homes

HOUSEHOLDS are being invited to register a local connection to West Wittering for a new housing development in the parish.

Chichester District Council and Hyde Martlet are planning to hold a registration event on Tuesday, July 3.

A council spokesman said 15 new affordable homes were being built off Summerfield Road, in West Wittering, including two-bedroom bungalows, two-bedroom houses, three-bedroom houses and a four-bedroom house.

“The homes are of an attractive design and will meet very high energy efficiency standards,” said the spokesman.

“The homes will be prioritised for households that are able to prove a local connection to the parish of West Wittering.”

The event will be held at the Sports Pavilion, Rookwood Road, West Wittering.

District and parish council staff, and Hyde Martlet representatives will be available from 3-7pm to discuss the development.

A local connection is defined as being a current West Wittering resident, for at least 12 months; permanently employed within West Wittering for a minimum of 18 hours a week, for at least a year, or having a family; having a family member currently permanently living in West Wittering (defined exclusively as parents, siblings or children; for a minimum of five years); or being a previous West Wittering resident that has been forced to move away due to a lack of affordable housing.

“Interested housing register applicants who feel they meet any of the criteria must make sure the council has all the relevant information to allocate the properties,” said the spokesman.

“Please bring along to the session, any evidence to support at least one of the connections.

“This will make sure that a bid for one of the properties is considered in line with the council’s allocation scheme.”
