FAMILIES are being asked to consider if they could provide a safe home for less fortunate young people.
West Sussex County Council’s supported lodgings service provides accommodation in family homes for young people aged between 16 and 21.
The young people, who are the responsibility of the council, may be care leavers or they may not able to live with their own families.
Supported lodgings provide them with a chance to develop the necessary life skills to prepare them for independent living in a safe and supportive environment.
Lodgings can be provided by people of many ages who are single, married or in a partnership but they have to have a spare room in their home.
The council recommends that they have patience, resilience, and an understanding of young people’s issues.
All lodgings providers are assessed, trained, supported and paid weekly.
A drop-in session providing information on how to start to offer lodgings, will be held at the County Hall on Wednesday, January 14, from 10am to 4pm.
