COUNTY NEWS: Downs Link to close for repair works

West Sussex County Council has announced that the Downs Link path will be closed while repair work is carried out.

Re-surfacing works are set to be carried out on the Downs Link path near Slinfold in September.

The works will address the path badly damaged by flooding south of Slinfold Village.

Work will begin on Monday, September 5 and is expected to last between three and four weeks.

The public route will be closed from Spring Lane, Slinfold, heading west towards Rudgwick leading up to Pensfold farm.

Pedestrians will be diverted using public footpaths, but there will be no off-road alternative for cyclists and equestrians, the council warned.

County Council Cabinet Member for Highways and Transport, John O’Brien, said: “The path warranted much needed attention and Slinfold’s residents can be rest assured that the repairs will safeguard the route’s long-term resistance to heavy rainfall.”

Improvements to the drainage system have already been made to reduce the chances of future flooding, the council said, and contractors will also deliver pothole repairs alongside the nearby caravan park.

The contract has been funded by local developers’ contributions.
