Two wildlife ambulances attended the incident and traffic had to be stopped as rescuers Tony and Chris caught the birds.

One swan was caught easily but the partner put up more of a fight, proving harder to catch.

Rescuer Trevor Weeks said: “When you have traffic wanting to get past and time is against you, these rescues never turn out as easy as you hope.

“Tony loaded his swan into his ambulance and it was not long before Chris had his swan under control and out of harm’s way.”

The pair of swans were checked over to ensure they were not injured and then taken along the road to Princes Park where they were released together.
