Arson arrest after blaze in Bognor Regis

A man was arrested on suspicion of arson, and making threats to kill, after a blaze in Bognor Regis on Monday night (November 23).

Sussex Police said officers responded to a report of a man making threats in Chichester Road at about 9pm.

'Several sheds' at a nearby allotment were on fire, when officers arrived.

A police spokesperson said: "A 27-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of making threats to kill and has been bailed subject to conditions while the investigation is ongoing.

"He was arrested on suspicion of arson and has been released under investigation pending further enquiries.

"No injuries were reported. The incident is being treated as isolated with no threat to the wider community."

The fire service confirmed crews were first called to an open fire in Orchard Way just after 6.30pm.

A spokesperson for West Sussex Fire & Rescue Service said: "Joint Fire Control mobilised firefighters from Bognor Regis Fire Station to the scene, and upon arrival they got to work using four high pressure hose reels to extinguish the fire.

"Crews remained at the scene and used a thermal imaging camera to ensure there were no further signs of fire before booking away from the incident at 10.18pm.

"The incident has been referred to Sussex Police."
