An inflatable boat has been stolen from a field near Sidlesham after a spate of overnight thefts.
The 6.5m faded yellow and black rigid inflatable boat (RIB) was stolen between 6pm on Wednesday, May 9, and 8am on Thursday, May 10, from a secure field in Highleigh Road, Highleigh.
The boat has a two-stroke engine mounted on the back and was on a virtually new trailer with a wheelclamp, a tow hitch lock and an engine lock. It has a big stainless frame over the engine, a central console and two rear forward-facing double seats on either side.
“We don’t currently know which direction the thieves took but it would have required a suitable vehicle to tow it,” said Sergeant Alan Fenn. “Somebody must have seen it being towed, and we ask that anyone who has any information or any potential sightings along the coast over that night contacts us via 101 quoting serial 0232 of 10/5.
“We would also be interested to hear if anyone spots any apparently abandoned trailers as the trailer might be disposed of separately from the boat itself.
“We are also appealing for anyone who sees any unusual loads on local roads during hours of darkness to make a note of the vehicle details and report it. There have been several overnight thefts of different types in the area recently. Contact us via 201 at any time or via 999 if your suspicions are specifically aroused at the time.”
