Bognor 15 year old sentenced for criminal damage and assault
Bognor 15 year old who caused £1,000 worth of damage to a shop window during a weekend of reports of anti-social behaviour has been sentenced after pleading guilty.
The boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was subject to a youth rehabilitation order and must attend regular meetings with a supervisor.
Appearing at West Sussex Youth Court, sitting at Worthing Magistrates’ Court, on April 29, the 15 year old admitted causing £1,000 worth of damage to the shop window of The Dirty Razor Barbershop, London Road, on April 9.
He also admitted, with another man, the assault of a man at Longford Road, Bognor Regis, on March 6.
He was sentenced to a youth rehabilitation order and was fined £50.
Talking about the damage just after it happened, a staff member at The Dirty Razor Barbershop said: “If you come to town at around six or seven o’clock in the evening, they stand around like a gang, but they are crazy.
“We think the window was broken because they had a fight here.”
The damage was done to the shop on April 9, only days before Covid restrictions were lifted and the barbershop was allowed to re-open for business.
“This is no good,” the staff member said. “If they continue to behave like this and the police don’t do anything, businesses will suffer. Who’s going to pay for this? The police won’t.”
