Bognor man admits to having over 4,000 indecent images of children and animals

A Bognor man has pleaded guilty to making or distributing more than 4,000 indecent images of children and animals.

Jason Purchase, 35, of Shearwater Drive in Bognor Regis, admitted making 3,566 indecent images of children at Worthing Magistrates’ Court today (November 24).

The total included 744 category A still or moving images – the most severe category – alongside thousands of category B and C images.

He also pleaded guilty to a fourth charge of possessing 1,070 images showing sexual activity with animals.

Purchase also admitted to distributing five category A images of children.

The charges relating to making indecent images of children and animals all took place on or between December 21, 2015, and November 22, 2017.

Purchase was charged with distributing the category A images on or between October 22, 2017, and November 3, 2017.

Speaking for the prosecution, Gaynor Byng said the distribution of category A images required sentencing powers beyond the magistrates’ court and recommended the case be heard at crown court.

Purchase’s defence counsel, Adrian Butt, argued psychiatric and probation reports were needed before any sentences could be handed out.

Chairman of the bench William Gibbons granted Purchase unconditional bail and ordered him to appear at Portsmouth Crown Court on December 22 for sentencing.
