Two businesses have thanked the public in Chichester for its 'fantastic' support following a number of break-ins to premises last week.

Good News newsagents in St Martin's Street suffered the loss of tobacco stock after thieves smashed through the front door on Wednesday (February 13).

Thieves target independent Chichester businessMick and Joyce Tidy were alerted to the break-in when they were called by their alarm company at about 10pm.

Joyce said: "On one side it is something bad — but you can always find good.

"We have been very touched by the support we have had from our old and new customers.

Thousands of pounds of stock stolen in third Chichester break-in in three days"The people's support has been fantastic. It is quite remarkable it is surprising but due to the Observer article we have had lots of enquiries it has been good for business.

"We made the decision to open the following morning because we had lots of deliveries and now we have had lots of enquiries on home deliveries particularly from Bosham."

Minutes away on East Street Lush was broken into overnight.

Store supervisor Lewis Disney said: "We have had a lot of positive support from people and from customers popping in the store."

Information sought as thieves ransack Chichester shopAnyone with information should contact Sussex Police online or by calling 101 quoting reference 1450 of 12/02 for the break-in at Good News or 247 of 14/02 for Lush.

A spokesman for the Real Eating Company confirmed their North Street shop had also been broken into on Thursday morning.

Sussex Police have been approached for more information.
