Homeless camp near Chichester destroyed in arson attack

The belongings of homeless people were completely destroyed in an arson attack at the weekend.

West Sussex Fire and Rescue service were called to reports of a 'makeshift shed-like structure' on fire on Terminus Road near the Firshbourne Roundabout.

Pictures show the remnants of belongings surrounded by ash on a wheeled structure.

A spokesperson for West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service said: “We were called to reports of a fire on Terminus Road near the Fishbourne Roundabout in Chichester on Sunday February 2 at 1.50pm.

“One crew from Chichester attended and upon arrival found a makeshift shed-like structure on fire. They used one hose reel to extinguish the fire, but the property was completely destroyed.

“They left the scene at 2.40pm.”

Sussex Police received a third party report of the deliberate ignition of a tent, sleeping bag and clothing in Terminus Road, Chichester.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to report online or call 101 quoting serial 912 of 02/02.

This is the third attack on members of the homeless community this year with the bedding and belongings two homeless men also destroyed by arson in Northgate in January.
