Police were called out on Monday night following reports of threatening behaviour towards a homeless man in South Street, police said.

Police said it was reported that the victim believed his belongings had been urinated on.

Donna Ockenden from the Four Streets Project said: “I’ve spoken to the man who was attacked and he said a group came out of a pub drunk and being lairy and shouted to him ‘is that all you’ve got mate’, before one of the group urinated on his sleeping bag.

“It’s absolutely disgusting.

“Thankfully Stonepillow has given him a new sleeping bag and clothes and he reported it to the police.”

Gary Edwards, 28, unemployed, of Fletcher Place, North Mundham, was arrested and charged with being drunk and disorderly in a public place, possession of a class A drug and possession of a class B drug, police added.

Police said he is due to appear at Worthing Magistrates’ Court on March 14.
