Man found unconscious in Bognor Regis dies

Police are making a further appeal for information after a man, who was found unconscious on the seafront in Bognor Regis, died in hospital.

The man was found unconscious with a serious head injury in Marine Drive West, Bognor Regis, at about 6am yesterday (Saturday January 30).

He was taken to hospital in Southampton but died of his injury today (Sunday January 31).

The man has been identified as Ivars Rubenis, 46, who lived at Belmont Street, Bognor Regis.

His family have been informed and police are liaising with the West Sussex coroner over the tragic death.

A postmortem will take place tomorrow (Monday February 1).

Detective Sergeant Alan Fenn said; “The cause of Mr Rubenis’s injury remains unexplained, and we would like to speak with anyone who was in the area of the seafront shelters in Marine Drive West between 11pm on Friday (29 January) and 6am on Saturday (January 30).

“If you can help please contact us via [email protected] or call 101, quoting serial 337 of 30/01.”
