Window smashed during attempted burglary at independent Chichester jewellery store
Two men have been arrested after an attempted burglary at an independent Chichester jewellery store last night (Wednesday, June 18).
Police officers were alerted in the early hours after window display glass was smashed at Timothy Roe Fine Jewellery, in South Street.
Business director Tim Roe said the incident was 'very upsetting', with the store having only reopened to the public on Tuesday.
In a statement, Mr Roe said: "Just after 12.30am, two men used a metal pole to smash the window display glass in our South Street shop. Due to the anti-bandit glass they gave up after a few blows, disposed of the metal tube and left the scene.
"This was very upsetting for us as we only re-opened on Tuesday after spending lots of time on trying to make the shop look presentable and inviting, but now we have a boarded-up window and a large bill for the new armoured glass and re-fitting our window display.
"It wasn't a good start for us."
Sussex Police said two men — aged 37 and 45 — have been arrested on suspicion of attempted burglary and remain in custody for questioning.
Anyone who witnessed what happened is asked to report online or call 101, quoting serial 47 of 18/06.
