Dragon boats take to Chichester waters

Dragons invaded Chichester Canal on Sunday thanks to the annual Chichester Rotary Dragon Boat Race.

Nine teams took to the water and battled it out to become champions with the team from Thesis Asset Management (Boaty McBoatface) just pipping SeaRoc (SeaRoc SeaDragons) in the grand final watched by the crowds who lined the canal to watch.

Other teams were from Solent Sunbeams (Tim’s Sunbeamers), Irwin Mitchell LLP (IM Roaring), CancerWise (Cancerwise Corkers), Langstone Cutters Rowing Club (Langstone Egrets), Chichester Ship Canal Trust (The Canal Canardlies), Covers Timber and Builders Co (Team Covers) and Nuffield Health (Nuff the Magic Dragon).

In the junior stakes the 1st Barnham Scouts entered two teams with Phantom Riders beating Ghost Riders in the final.

Mayor Peter Evans and his wife Margaret joined the proceedings for many hours and he and Rotary Club President Mike Harvey presented the prizes.
