Dramatic rescue after 12-year-old boy trapped in rocks on Selsey beach

The Selsey Coastguard rescue team launched at 2pm yesterday afternoon (Friday 26) to reports of a boy whose leg was trapped in the rock armour on the west side of Selsey.

With the tide still rising, the boy managed to free his leg shortly before the rescue team arrived and scrambled up the rocks to avoid breaking waves.

Pictures showed the boy suffered injuries to his leg, so the team used a basket stretched to move him from the rocks for treatment.

A South East Coast Ambulance crew arrived to check him over before giving him the all clear to return home safely.

The lifeboat returned to the station at 2.58pm, crewed by Helmsman James Albrey, Max Wiseman and Dan Langford.

In a Facebook post, Selsey Coastguard said: "The two friends of the trapped boy did exactly the right thing calling 999 and asking for the Coastguard so well done to them."
