East Wittering CP School has been awarded Artsmark status to celebrate its excellence in arts and culture.
Just 15 per cent of schools in South East England hold Artsmark status by proving they promote students’ spiritual, moral, social and cultural development.
The pupils celebrated by sharing the children’s work in the arts through a special Artsmark Award Exhibition which ran alongside the parents open evenings last week.
Artsmark is the Arts Council England’s flagship programme delivered by Trinity College London.
To achieve Artsmark, the school underwent a rigorous application process, followed by a validation visit from a professional arts consultant.
It was assessed in its provision of arts inside and outside the curriculum. It was also assessed on how it worked with artists and arts organisations and how well its arts provision impacts on staff development and the wider community.
Holding Artsmark status demonstrates that the school is forward thinking, open to development, committed to investing in staff and pupils, committed to listening to pupils and providing opportunities for the community.
