Animal magic from sculptor delights Chichester children

FOUR stone animal sculptures have been installed at Chichester Nursery and Children’s Centre.

A rabbit, lizard, bear and bird, all carved from huge pieces of Bath Limestone, now sit proudly at the centre.

The pieces of art were created by the nationally-acclaimed sculptor Paula Haughney. Each stone weighs just under one tonne, which presented quite a challenge in delivery and handling.

Headteacher of the children’s centre, Candy Daffern, contacted Paula when funds were in place for new developments at the centre.

Mrs Daffern hopes the friendly creatures will stimulate imaginative play for the children.

The animals have been carefully placed around the nursery in positions where the under-fives can admire and play on them and they are hugely popular with children and adults alike.
