IN a national context of uncertainty about GCSE examination grades, particularly in core subjects such as English and mathematics, staff and students at Midhurst Rother College (MRC) are celebrating excellent GCSE results.
Today (Thursday, August 22) 93% of students achieved 5+ A*-C with 65% including English and maths, while 79% of students obtained an A*-C grade in maths and 74% in English.
There were also some excellent individual results including the following students who obtained a high number of A/A* grades:
Alison Collins: 7
Lucy Davies: 6
Amy Kennedy-Holmes: 8
Styn Oomen: 9
Olivia Reed: 7
Lisa Taylor: 6
Jennifer Welsman: 8
Principal at MRC, Dr Joe Vitagliano said: “Whilst it is clear that obtaining five or more A* to C grades, including English and maths, is now more difficult, I am delighted that such a high number of Midhurst Rother College students have attained this vital goal.
“As a result of obtaining such excellent GCSE grades many more students are joining our Sixth Form this coming September and will embark on A Level courses that will see even more of them going on to top universities and high quality employment.
“I congratulate our students for their hard work and persistence, and thank staff for working so hard to make these results a reality. Together with last week’s excellent A Level grades, this shows why the College is now judged by Ofsted as an outstanding 11 to 18 school. We are pleased to be maintaining such high standards.”
Look out in next week’s Midhurst and Petworth Observer (Thursday, August 29) for our special feature on GCSE results from around the area, with all the pictures.
