Author David Fuller used a football-themed masterclass to inspire children to write.
He visited Eastergate CE Primary School to share his Alfie Jones series of books.
English leader Sarah Holden, who organised the visit as part of Book Week, said: “English is a key area of focus at Eastergate and we are always keen to find new and exciting ways to engage the children and instill a love of reading.
“Having David visit and talk so passionately about reading and writing is incredibly motivating and many of the children came out of the session excited to have a go at writing their own stories.”
Excited pupils aged between seven and 11 were given an insight into David’s inspiration and development process and they were treated to a spine-tingling extract from his new book, Alfie Jones and the Big Decision.
David, who is also an FA qualified youth football coach, began writing following discussions with children about the books they liked, having been dismayed by the number of reluctant readers he encountered, especially among boys.
It was from here that the character Alfie Jones was born and David now inspires hundreds of children during his interactive school visits and workshops.
