CHICHESTER High School for Boys welcomed back one of its high-flying former pupils.
Mike Child, 31, is a member of the celebrated Red Arrows squadron, and it was the first time he had been back to the school in many years.
He attended the school from 1991 to 1998, and returned on October 26 to share his experiences with current students.
During the afternoon he took questions from geography students, one of which dealt with what inspired him to take to the air.
He replied: “When I came to the high school I knew there were the cadets here, and I did as much as I could to get in a position to join the air force.”
When asked how he felt to perform at the Olympics opening ceremony he said he was “pretty nervous.”
He added afterwards of addressing the students: “It was quite surreal. 20 years ago I was sat where they were thinking ‘who’s that guy?’
“I still remember a lot of my time here and I’m glad to see the school’s still going strong and that there’s so much going on.”
