West Dean graduates on path to success

TWO metalwork graduates have secured prestigious positions.

Laurie Price and Hannah Young, who were both students at West Dean College, have each been awarded a one-year paid internship, starting next month, at the National Maritime Museum in Greenwich.

They will be working on a variety of objects from sextants to lighthouses.

Laurie was also awarded the British Antique Dealers’ Association (BADA) Geoffrey Moss Prize this year for making the greatest contribution to an educational programme.

Hannah was awarded the BADA Harold Davies Prize – given to the student who has made the most progress during the year.

Laurence Birnie, head of metals conservation at the National Maritime Museum said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for Laurie and Hannah to apply their skills in a professional working environment and gives them the golden first job out of college – a rare thing these days and essential for their CV and professional working life ahead of them.

“The internship is very prestigious and competition to get a place is very strong. Well done to them indeed.”
