A FORMER Chichester student has spoken of her gratitude to the community, after she raised enough money for a year’s voluntary work in India.
Katie James, 18, who has just received her A-level results from Chichester High Schools Sixth Form, will be travelling to the tiny village of Tangutur, in South India, to teach English to schoolchildren as part of the Project Trust, an educational volunteering charity.
She said: “Over the last nine months I have received fantastic support from so many people in the community.”
One of the events which she organised was a musical soirée, with live performers and an auction which raised over £2,000.
She added: “It was going to be a small thing but it kept growing and growing and it ended up being a massive concert with over 120 people.”
She said there were so many people to thank for helping with the event, but especially Adam Barker, of West Sussex Music Services. Katie heads to Tangutur on September 11.
