THE OLD Observer newsroom is set to become someone’s home.
A planning application has been lodged with Chichester District Council to turn the distinctive oval room into a flat.
Permission was granted in 2013 for the building, at the end of East Street, in Chichester, to be turned into a convenience store on the ground floor, with four two-bedroom flats and retained office space.
However, a new application has been made this month for the office space to be instead used to provide two extra flats on the first floor.
The area originally earmarked to remain as offices was the editorial newsroom and the newspaper’s former conference room.
Both of these are clearly marked for two-bedroom flats.
There are also plans to make it safer for pedestrians to cross the road to Unicorn House, from East Street, with a repositioning of the existing crossing.
