Festive season underway with launch of Christmas shop

A stunning picture of Chichester Cathedral in the snow has been chosen by Cards for Good Causes for this year's local card.

The photographer, Kathleen Smith, who lives in the city, officially opened the multi-charity Christmas card shop in The Council House, North Street, on Saturday.

Judith O’Sullivan, regional organiser, said: “Kathleen captured Chichester Cathedral in the snow in a lovely photograph and kindly donated the use of this to Cards for Good Causes. They have made it into a wonderful local scene card. The proceeds from the sales of this card will help benefit all the charities involved.

“We are so grateful to Kathleen for allowing us to use this photo and feel sure the card will sell well. It is unusual to see Chichester in the snow.”

Staffed by a team of volunteers, the pop-up shop is part of a network of 300 temporary shops run Cards for Good Causes, supporting national and local charities with a range of cards and Christmas goods.

It represents more than 250 charities, including Cancer Research UK, Barnardo’s, NSPCC, Alzheimer’s Society and RNLI, and sells cards from a number of local charities, including Canine Partners, Sussex Snowdrop Trust, Friends of Chichester Hospital, SASBAH, Air Ambulance and the Aldingbourne Trust.

Alison Patrick, shop manager, said: “Buying charity Christmas cards is one of the simplest ways to support good causes this festive season.

“Sales of the cards not only generate funds with which the charities can make a real difference but also purchasing and sending them helps raise awareness of the vital work these charities do. Look out for our distinctive triangular red Santa sign.”

Shoppers will be able to choose from hundreds of different Christmas card designs, as well as traditional advent calendars and candles, wrapping paper, gift tags, napkins and stocking fillers.

Shop opening hours are Monday to Saturday, 9.30am to 4.30pm, until December 17.
