Flood alerts for West Sussex coastline

THE Environment Agency has issued flood alerts for the coastal areas of West Sussex this afternoon (March 1).

The coastal stretches from Thorney Island to Bracklesham, and Selsey Bill to Elmer should prepare for possible coastal flooding.

“There is likelihood that some coastal roads could be inundated and that some localised flooding could affect waterside properties in Chichester harbour,” said an Environment Agency spokesman.

Localised disruption in Pagham Harbour is also expected, with roads in the area expected to flood.

It is likely a flood warning - which urges residents to take action - will be issued for Bosham and West Itchenor on Monday because of high tides.

“Properties particularly in the Bosham High Street area should take precautions now to prepare for possible flooding,” said the spokesman.

A groundwater flood alert for the Lavant Valley remains in place.
