Flood warnings issued for Lavant and Emsworth

THE Environment Agency has issued flood warnings for Lavant and Emsworth this afternoon (February 14).

A warning for Mid and East Lavant was given at 3pm today.

A spokesman said: “The rainfall through this morning has caused river levels to rise further in the river Lavant. As a result it is expected that property flooding will occur in the villages of Mid & East Lavant. The main areas at risk are adjacent to the village green on Pook and Sheepwash Lane.

“The heaviest rain should pass soon, but further heavy showers can be expected for the rest of the day.”

There was also a warning for The West Brook at Emsworth.

“Up to 20mm of rain has fallen over the West Brook catchment in the last six hours,” said a spokesman.

“River levels are responding quickly to the heavy rainfall. More rain is forecast throughout the day, with possible maximum of 40mm by early evening, so river levels will continue to rise until the rain has passed.

“Emsworth Mill Pond was drained before the last high tide. Environment Agency staff will be draining the pond again and checking grills imminently. High tide tonight is at around 11pm and is forecast to be very high.”
