Floodworks in Earnley to protect peninsula

FLOODING protection measures will take place in Earnley next week.

A 15-metre wide culvert is to be built by West Sussex County Council to help protect residents from flooding.

The structure will allow a new flood alleviation channel to pass underneath Almodington Lane.

The work is part of the Medmerry sea defence scheme for the Manhood Peninsula.

Once finished, it is hoped the scheme will improve drainage infrastructure for over 300 homes, the B2145 Chichester Road and the Selsey water treatment works.

Work starts on the concrete culvert on Monday (January 27) and is expected to take ten weeks to complete.

Almodington Lane will be closed throughout the works between Bookers Lane at the western end and Easton Lane.

Diversions will be in place.
