Footgolf fun for JustDifferent
JustDifferent's charity footgolf on Friday saw members from 11 teams put their best foot forward for the charity.
The aim was to raise vital funds to help challenge and change negative perceptions of disability and difference.
It was the charity’s first major event, with 44 team members taking part and many others turning up to show their support.
Karen McLachlan, JustDifferent fundraiser, said: “The event took place at Chichester Golf Club, which was a super venue. Even the weather was kind and play was not stopped, despite a brief shower.
“When deciding on our first event, the charity wanted to do something a little different and so footgolf seemed to fit very nicely with the aims of JustDifferent.
“The game is still relatively new and with the success of their first event it is planned that it will become an annual event in the JustDifferent calendar.”
Teams comprised businesses and individuals, raising a total of £2,355.
Will Stisted from Anderson Rowntree Solicitors, one of the hole sponsors, trained the firm’s team On Par, Jackie Boxall, Emy Reid, Daisy Hofgartner and Lena Pluck
He said: “We all had a fantastic afternoon. It was the first time that any of us had played footgolf but it was so much fun and we weren’t at all competitive. We came second to last, which is a shame as we just missed out on the wooden spoons.
“Anderson Rowntree was so pleased at the amount of money raised and that it is going to such a great cause. We felt very privileged to have been asked to participate in this event and would love to be invited to take part again next year, which will hopefully give us enough time to practice.”
Gary Burgess from Team Redirection said: “Both our teams really enjoyed the event, it was very different and a great laugh. The work the charity does is so important and we were so inspired after the event that we are going to organise another event in support of JustDifferent.”
The winner was The Portz Boys, father and son team Dave and Matt Porter, who were delighted to be the first team to be engraved on the Charity Cup.
Karen added: “All the money raised from this event will change lives by changing attitudes towards disability and difference through the delivery of disability workshops delivered by disabled people to children, young people and adults.”
