A group of residents got together at Bracklesham Beach on Saturday to learn about the wonders of our past.
Local geologist David Bone led the group along the seafront for a fossil hunt, in the hope of uncovering something extraordinary.
He said everyone had a good time, despite there being no major discoveries.
“I do local geology on a large scale and I am always taking groups out, doing talks and walks,” he said.
“I tell people what we’ve got around us. I think everybody got something out of the hunt.
“You can’t always guarantee what the conditions are like. All you can arrange for is a low tide and then it is luck of the draw. The advantage is I know my way around.”
Mr Bone does about five or six different trips every year. If you are interested in taking part in one of the events, visit www.westsussexgeology.co.uk
