A POST office is finally set to return to a village after a four-year absence.

Funtington is set to welcome back its post office after it was given a stamp of approval.

It will open on Monday, August 11, at 1pm in the Funtington Larder Village Shop, The Fox and Hounds, Common Road.

The previous post office was located at Country Fare, in Main Road, and closed temporarily in June, 2010, because the temporary subpostmaster was no longer able to provide the service, according to the Post Office.

The Funtington Larder Village Shop opened last year after pub landlord Neil Sutherland gained planning permission to convert stables next to his pub, The Fox and Hounds, into a convenience store.

A post office till will be added to the retail counter and will be open during the store’s opening hours.

Speaking last November, the Post Office regional network manager for the south,
Julia Marwood, said: “We understand how important having a post office is to residents in Funtington.”
