Head boy Isaac Sturge – who achieved nine A* and one A – was just one of the students who were clearly estatic.

He admitted ‘I am shocked’ and that his dream is ‘to be an actor – but I have back-up plans’.

Leanne Harrison, who plans to head to South Downs College to study animal management also had a good surprise.

This was something Mr Lloyd, director of learning for music, who is moving on from Bourne after eight years also acknowledged as he praised the school’s support system.

Mr Lloyd said: “Music departments are usually a one or two man band, cliche but it is true, but here there is a real open door policy. If you need support you can find it and that filters down from staff to students, that has been a big thing here.”

More than half of all the students leaving the Bourne Community College in 2016 have gained the ‘gold standard’ of 5 or more A*-C grades including English and Maths.

Ms Watkins said: “We are especially proud of our A* and A results, reflecting our continued push for excellence in all areas and this year we have so many high achievers whose hard work and dedication is reflected in their progress and attainment.
