Girl Guides help Major Tim lift off

MORE than 120 Girl Guides helped British ESA astronaut Tim Peake as he prepared for his journey to the International Space Station at the end of the year.

Rainbows, Brownies, Guides, their leaders and family members took part in ‘Team Tim’, an entertaining and interactive science show which sees audiences helping Tim Peake pass his training and blast off into space.

The girls helped Tim to keep fit, do calculations, conduct science experiments, grow space plants, launch small satellites, and perform a thrilling spacewalk to fix an ageing electrical circuit.

Major Tim Peake will blast off from Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan on December 15 to begin a five-month project on the International Space Station.

Team Tim is run by
Spacefund, an organisation which provides space science and engineering shows.

A member of Spacefun
said: “We are thrilled by the response from the girls
who were full of interest and questions after the show.

“This was also an unforgettable interactive experience made extra special by being performed next to Tim’s old school, Chichester High School.”

Carol Pateman, Girlguiding Chichester division commissioner, said: “We really enjoyed Team Tim’s visit to the Rainbows, Brownies and Guides of Girlguiding Chichester Division. The girls had fun
learning and playing along
with the show; we hope the
event will have encouraged
the girls to develop an interest
in science and engineering in
the future.”
