IT IS all systems go for the annual big dip in East Wittering.
After the disappointment of last year, when atrocious weather forced the event’s cancellation, hopes are high this year will see normal service resumed on New Year’s Day.
The dip raises much-needed funds for the 1st Birdham and Witterings Scout Group and dozens of fancy-dressed dippers are expected to throw themselves into the sea at 12.30pm on January 1. Sign-up is from 10am to midday.
Despite a lack of volunteers leading to the unfortunate cancelling of the New Year’s Day dip along the coast in Bognor Regis, there are no such problems in East Wittering.
Last year, wind and rain forced the cancellation of the event at the 11th hour as the sea was too dangerous for people to enter.
On New Year’s Day, there will also be prizes for the best-dressed team of three or more people, as well as best-dressed under 16, best-dressed male and best-dressed female.
Dippers normally look to raise at least £25 each in sponsorship, with all the money raised going to the scout group.
