Elderly people in care homes across West Sussex are being kept up-to-date with all the latest news, events and sport in their local community thanks to a new scheme.

The Observer has teamed up with Welbeing, a specialist provider of independent living services, to launch Papers for Care Homes – a project to deliver courtesy copies of local papers to people in residential care.

These are people who need round-the-clock support because they are either too frail or ill to look after themselves.

Care homes in Chichester, Bognor Regis and Petworth are taking part in the scheme.

Charlene Saunders, marketing manager for Welbeing, said: “This is a great way of making sure elderly people, who may have difficulty getting out and about, feel part of what’s happening in their community.

“Welbeing is delighted to sponsor this initiative.”
