WITH more rain and high tides expected this weekend, the Environment Agency has urged residents to keep up to date with flood alerts.

High tides are expected along the south coast in the next few days, with the potential for flood alerts to be issued in some areas.

The Environment Agency said it will monitor the situation carefully along the coast with East Sussex and Hampshire facing the highest tides. Peter Quarmby, regional duty manager at the Environment Agency, said: “High tides are forecast across the south coast later today and into the weekend. While river levels are still high and with spring tides on the way, it is possible that more flooding could be on the way.

“We will be issuing flood alerts and flood warnings as appropriate over the coming days to those communities that are likely to be affected, so people need to sign up to our free flood warning service and be ready to take action if they get these warnings so they can protect their property as best they can.

“We will continue to monitor the situation very closely and we urge communities to be aware of their risk and be ready to act.”

A flood warning indicates that property flooding is expected and immediate action is required. Advice and guidance about flooding is available on the Environment Agency website and from Floodline on 0845 988 1188.
