Owen Scrivens, 19, from Felpham, was driving along Summersdale Road in Chichester with his partner Emily Smith, 20, and baby son Jaxson when the drama unfolded.

The care assistant went into the opposite lane to pass parked cars, when an overtaking biker lashed out with his hand, destroying the teenager’s wing mirror.

But as Mr Scrivens, of Poulner Close, Felpham, pulled over, he saw the fragment had slashed open his neck and blood was spurting out over his chest.

He said: “I looked down and I was covered in blood.

“I started panicking and went into shock.

“I walked round to see if Jaxson was okay and I could just see blood squirting from my neck.

“My lips turned blue and I thought I was going to die.”

Friends and passersby stopped to aid the injured dad, with one woman using a nappy to stem the bleeding.

The biker never stopped and police are now appealing for help in finding him.

Mr Scrivens, who hopes to one day become a paramedic, was rushed to St Richard’s Hospital, Chichester, where he underwent surgery.

“The consultant said if the cut had been an inch to the left or right I could have died or had life-changing injuries, I was very lucky,” he added.

Speaking of the terrifying ordeal, girlfriend Emily said: “It was like being in a horror film.

‘The blood had squirted everywhere in the car.

“Owen could have died and my son could have been without a dad for the rest of his life.”

She added: “Jaxson was very lucky. His car seat was covered in glass.

“But he was in a rear-facing car seat. If it had been the other way he could have been seriously injured.

The suspect was dressed all in black, wore a black helmet and rode a black bike.

Police said the biker drove north along Summersdale Road then left into the Broadway.

Witnesses can call police on 101, quoting 864 of 05/08.
