Hunston homes given planning permission

EIGHTEEN new homes have been given the go-ahead on the Manhood Peninsula.

Permission was granted for the dwellings off Foxbridge Drive, in Hunston.

Seven of the 18 homes will be affordable housing, in line with the district council’s 40 per cent target.

A similar application was dismissed in June, 2006, for 18 affordable dwellings on the site.

In that instance the appeal was dismissed on the basis there was no need for the proposal.

The inspector at the time also questioned whether Hunston was a suitable location for the housing.

Gleeson Strategic Land said in its design and access statement it had developed the current plan with a mixture of housing, both open market and affordable, and had addressed some of access issues raised previously.

It added: “It must be remembered that the village has existing business and housing needs.

“The housing needs will only be satisfied through the delivery of housing.

“It is considered that this modest proposal will aid the continued viability of local resources.”

There were more than 20 letters of objection to the proposal, and two topics raised were the potential increase in traffic, and the risk of flooding on the site.

Hunston Parish Council objected to the proposal, and disputed the need for additional housing, and claimed there were a number of properties in the area which had been on the market for a long time.

The permission includes a number of conditions, many of which concern road safety.

Chichester Harbour Conservancy raised no objection to the scheme, as sewage would be transferred to the waste water treatment works at Pagham, and therefore avoid an adverse effect on the harbour.
