HUNDREDS of youngsters gathered at Seaford College for the fifth round of the 2015 Greenpower Education Trust’s youth engineering initiative, the IET Formula Goblin championship.

The initiative aims to inspire children to take an interest in engineering by building and racing their own all-electric car.

The teams were a close match throughout the slalom, drag race and sprint events, but it was Funtington Primary School which came away victorious.

Meanwhile, Seaford College won the Spirit of Greenpower award.

Headmaster John Green said: “It is great to see the potential engineers of the future enjoying racing the cars they have built. Every school has a dedicated team of teachers and volunteers that help make these events come alive.

“I loved hearing the children cheering their school teams on and watching the concentration on their faces as they race around the track.”
