A Bosham woman says had she parked her truck just a few inches further back it would have been totally destroyed by a falling tree.

Miraculously, the huge conifer landed on a metal toolbox in the back of her Mitsobishi L200 pick-up, breaking its fall as it crashed down in high winds on Sunday night.

Erica Brown, a landscape gardener, said: “The truck was parked in my drive and I came out to sort the chickens out as I normally do in the morning and low and behold I had a tree in the back of my truck.

“A conifer had split and half of it had come down on the back of my truck. Had I parked just a few inches back I would have lost the truck for sure.

“There was a big metal toolbox in the back of the truck and that took the brunt of the fall.

“I phoned a tree surgeon friend who came out and moved it, and apart from a few dents it’s perfectly fine to drive.”
