‘Machete man’ puts Sussex school into lockdown: in pictures

According to Sussex Police, officers responded to a report of a man believed to be in possession of a machete in a woodland area in Lewes Road, Brighton, at 2.55pm today (September 17). A search of the area was carried out by officers assisted by the police helicopter. Students at nearby Brighton Aldridge Community Academy were kept inside the school as a precaution, and no one was threatened or harmed, police added. They were escorted out of the school by officers to return home safely and told to avoid the woodland area where the suspect was reported to be. police said. Detective Chief Superintendent Steve Rayland said: “We would like to thank everyone involved for their co-operation and patience. Our priority is to keep people safe. We have now stood down the search but are continuing to carry out enquiries into the reported incident.”
