Man arrested on suspicion of attempted murder is released

A 56-year-old Selsey man arrested on suspicion of attempted murder has been released without charge, police said.

The arrest followed reports that a 28-year-old woman lying in a road in Donnington had been hit by a car in Donnington on Monday.

The woman suffered serious multiple injuries and was taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital, Brighton, where she was in a serious but stable condition, police said on Tuesday.

The driver of the Ford Ka involved, a 52-year-old man from Poole, was uninjured in the collision, which happened on the B2110 Selsey Road, near the junction of St George’s Drive, just after 5pm.

The road remained closed for several hours.

Police arrested a 56-year-old man on suspicion of attempted murder.

On Wednesday, a Sussex Police spokesman said: “A 56-year-old man from Selsey, who was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, has been released without charge. Police enquiries are continuing.”
