THIS year’s Miss Sussex title-winner has been showing her support for charity by getting involved in a number of fundraising events.
Lucy Kent, from Arundel, has been raising money for Beauty with a Purpose, the Miss England and Miss World charity which helps disadvantaged children.
Along with a group of other contestants, Lucy also took part in a walk on Sunday, in support of Calum Mayes, who attended the walk in his wheelchair.
Lucy said: “Calum was born eight weeks premature, and was so poorly, he was given only two hours to live.
“His liver, kidneys and lungs were underdeveloped, and over ten years Calum has had many operations – he is now 17 and is undergoing treatment at Great Ormond Street Hosptial.
“Together, we walked about five miles, and I pushed Calum’s chair for about an hour.
“We had a lot of people walking by us who donated.
“I’m just really glad that I am able to help.”
The Miss England hopeful also attended Sparks in the Park, where she helped judge the best Alice in Wonderland fancy dress competition and helped to raise awareness of the charity Action Medical Research.
Lucy said: “I’m also running the Brighton trailblazer 10k run with my dad in aid of Action Medical Research on August 2.”
“I want to do everything I can throughout my year as Miss Sussex, and I would love to get the support from the people of Sussex.”
Lucy will represent Sussex at the Miss England finals at the Ricoh arena at Coventry on August 13 and 14, and there is a public vote to help her gain a place in the final.
