More optimism among South-East potential home owners

A report by Royal Mail says that optimism for buying a home in the future has increased, with 43% of people saying they are positive about it.

The top reasons are due to a pay rise, deciding to buy with someone else and the stamp duty changes or inherited money. The number of renters planning to buy has increased to 56%, which was previously 51% in March/April last year.

The survey adds that in the South East, 45% of homeowners had to wait longer to move than they would have ideally wanted; 59% of the homeowners waiting up to a year.

Jim Conning, Managing Director of Data Services, at Royal Mail, said: “Royal Mail’s Home Movers Study of Redirection customers provides a fascinating snapshot of the UK home moving market. It is interesting to see that while challenges remain; two out of five renters surveyed are feeling more optimisitc about buying their own home compare to last year.”

The main reasons for the owners and renters moving were to get a bigger house (26%) and 12% wanted to downsize. Furthermore, 19% wanted to move to a better area and 12% wanted to live closer to their family.
